The Vermont Enhanced 9-1-1 Board hired Northbranch Media to run a statewide education and outreach campaign to increase public awareness about Vermont’s new text to 9-1-1 service. I created two 30-second TV PSAs illustrating emergency situations where texting to 9-1-1 is the best option. I also produced two radio PSAs, one of which went on to be named Radio PSA of the Year by the Vermont Association of Broadcasters. After the PSAs ran for several weeks, the 9-1-1 Board said that use of text to 9-1-1 had increased substantially, with an average of six emergencies per week being reported by text. Prior to the campaign, in a six-month period text to 9-1-1 had only been used twice.
